Description

FANCL Mild Cleansing Oil Black & Smooth is a pore-focused variant of FANCL's iconic preservative-free cleansing oil, formulated with four pore-care actives — activated charcoal, adsorbing clay, Komenuka (rice bran) extract, and Hop extract — to dissolve makeup and draw out blackheads, clogged pores, and surface congestion without disrupting the skin's moisture balance. A Japan-domestic formula sold at Matsumotokiyoshi, it's popular among those who find the standard blue Mild Cleansing Oil too basic for congested skin.

Activated charcoal and adsorbing clay work together as the core pore-purifying actives, while the Smooth Cushion Oil base lifts makeup and impurities with minimal friction. The formula is FANCL Mutenka (無添加) — free from preservatives, synthetic fragrance, synthetic colorants, petroleum surfactants, and UV absorbers. Safe for use with lash extensions and on wet skin.

120ml bottle, approximately 60 uses. A refill (115ml) is also available separately. Shelf life 120 days after opening, 3 years unopened.

Key Ingredients

  • Activated Charcoal — adsorbs sebum, oxidised oil, and impurities from inside pores; gives the oil its distinctive black colour
  • Adsorbing Clay — draws out congestion and fine surface debris that charcoal alone may not reach
  • Komenuka (Rice Bran) Extract — a traditional Japanese skin-conditioning ingredient; helps maintain a soft, even skin texture after cleansing
  • Hop Extract — supports skin barrier stability and helps minimise post-cleansing irritation

HOW TO USE

  1. Dispense 2 pumps onto dry or wet palms.
  2. Massage gently over dry or wet face in circular motions for 30–60 seconds.
  3. Add a small amount of water to emulsify, then rinse thoroughly.
  4. Follow with your regular face wash if preferred.
  5. Pro tip: use on bare skin even on no-makeup days to clear daily pore congestion — FANCL recommends this as a standalone pore-care step.

FAQ

How is this different from the standard FANCL Mild Cleansing Oil?

The standard version (blue) focuses on gentle, all-skin-type makeup removal. The Black & Smooth adds four dedicated pore-care actives — charcoal, adsorbing clay, rice bran, and hop — making it specifically suited for oily, congested, or blackhead-prone skin.

Can I use this if I have sensitive skin?

FANCL's Mutenka (无添加) standard means no preservatives, synthetic fragrance, synthetic colorants, petroleum surfactants, or UV absorbers — making it gentler than most drugstore cleansing oils. That said, if your skin reacts to charcoal or clay, patch test first.

Can I use it with lash extensions?

Yes. FANCL confirms this formula is safe for use with standard cyanoacrylate-based lash extensions.

FANCL Black & Smooth vs. DHC Deep Cleansing Oil — which is better for pores?

DHC's formula is olive-oil based and excellent for general makeup removal, but has no dedicated pore-clearing actives. FANCL Black & Smooth is purpose-formulated for pore congestion with charcoal and adsorbing clay, making it the stronger choice for blackhead-prone skin.

Is this the Japan-domestic version?

Yes. This is the Japan-domestic formula sold at Matsumotokiyoshi and across Japanese drugstores. TokyoShelf sources directly from Tokyo — not export versions or gray-market supply.
